Application Procedure

The application form consists of two parts:

  • the first part asks for basic factual information;
  • the second part asks you to describe your research process by answering five specific questions (see Application Form).

You may answer the latter questions in whatever way fits the narrative flow of your research process. For instance, you might answer each question separately, answer all questions together in the form of a short essay, record a video or audio clip in which you answer the questions, or create a visual representation of your process (e.g. vision board, powerpoint, etc.). No matter what format you choose, your submission should be no less than 500 words (appx. 3 minutes) and no more than 1000 words (appx. 6 minutes) overall.

Follow this link to Moodle, and click to enroll in the Shain Library Research Prize. Once enrolled, you can begin the application process, which must be completed by the Fall or Spring deadline.

In order to be considered, submissions need to be complete and must include each of the following:

  1. A complete application form to be completed in the Shain Library Research Prize site in Moodle
  2. A bibliography containing all sources consulted or quoted during the course of your research. The bibliography must follow a recognized style guideline (e.g. APA, Chicago, MLA, etc.). Upload a copy to the Moodle site.
  3. A draft or final version of your research project. Upload a copy to the Moodle site.

Submit your application before 5:00 PM on the Monday after finals end. Then await the results, which will be shared by the Committee in January for the Fall, and in June for the Spring, with an overall annual winner and runners-up recognized and celebrated at Fall Weekend.
