This page will highlight a variety of services that focus on accessibility on campus and some within the local community.

Accessibility Services

ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES: is committed to "ensuring nondiscrimination and access to all programs, activities, and services for qualified students with disabilities". To enquire about what types of services are available to students or to make an appointment to meet with the Director of Student Accessibility Services discuss appropriate accommodations please call 860-439-5428.

Academic Resource Center (ARC)

THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE CENTER, or ARC offers services to support the academic work of all students, such as study skills workshops, time management, coaching and tutoring, all at no cost to all students. 

Examples of Services Provided by the ARC:

  • Peer Tutoring: for more information on tutoring please check out the TUTORING PAGE. This page includes information about what to expect when attending a tutoring session, as well as how to become a peer tutor.
  • Workshops: examples of workshops are Time Management Workshops, Exam Preparation Workshops, Project Management, and many more. Please refer to the WORKSHOPS page to see additional examples. 

Currently students can make appointments online through the ARC STUDENT RESOURCES PAGE. On this to make an appointment, you would need to fill out a DIGITAL REQUEST FORM while signed into your Connecticut College Student Email. 

 

Roth Writing Center

THE ROTH WRITING CENTER offers one-to-one peer tutoring to help student writers of all abilities during all stages of the writing process. 

The Roth Writing Center would provide support from assistance with writing assignments from any class to  personal statements for graduate school applications. The Roth Writing Center has also created a video introduction to the services of the center as well, VIDEO INTRODUCTION.

Currently students would make appointment through GOOGLE CALENDAR while signed into their Connecticut College Student Email.

Student Counseling Services

STUDENT COUNCILING SERVICES is available to assist students experiencing emotional upset. Care is provided in a safe and non-judgmental atmosphere at no cost to the student.

During the academic year the Student Counseling Services is open from 8:30am to 6pm Monday through Thursday, and 8:30am-5:00pm on Friday. Student Counseling Services is closed on Saturday and Sunday, on the STUDENT COUNCILING SERVICES page, they have included information for students who need mental health care when the center is closed should do at the top of the page.

Examples of Services Provided by Student Counseling Services: 

  • Evaluation
  • Individual and group counseling (SUPPORT GROUPS AND EVENTS)
  • Psychopharmacological evaluation and medication management
  • Crisis intervention services
  • Outreach, consultation, and Gatekeeper Training to the College community
  • Psycho-educational forums
  • Referral to off-campus clinicians for specialized and/or intensive treatment
  • Light therapy

Student Health Services

STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES provides students with a variety of health-related services.

The Student Health Services hours of operation are from 8:30am-5:00pm Monday through Friday. The Student Health Services office is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Student Health Services has information available about enrollment into their health care plan for full time students, STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE. Currently students enrolled in this plan can access health care, both in-person, and virtually through the HARTFORD HEALTHCARE-GOHEALTH URGENT CARE page.

Examples of Services Provided by Student Health Services:

  • Prescription delivery from a local pharmacy
  • Physicals for sports/travel/study abroad
  • Specialist referrals
  • Immunizations
  • Health promotion programs and information
  • Routine laboratory tests onsite; labs not processed here are sent to Quest Diagnostics outpatient lab and will be billed to your insurance
  • A limited number of common medications without added charge
  • Travel immunizations and information
  • LGBTQIA inclusive patient-centered care
  • HIV counseling and testing
  • Sexually transmitted infection screening and treatment
  • Contraceptive counseling with onsite options available 
  • Emergency contraception (EC). For further information on EC you may look at www.not-2-late.com

Student Organizations

A list of Student Organizations which focus on an aspect of Accessibility: 

  • Active Minds: "Active Minds is the only organization working to utilize the student voice to change the conversation about mental health on college campuses by developing and supporting chapters of student-run mental health awareness, education, and advocacy."*
  • Best Buddies: "Best Buddies International is the largest nonprofit organization established to promote friendships and employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The chapter's goal is to raise awareness on campus and the surrounding New London area."*
  • Connsider: "Promotes political, cultural and social awareness through talks, colloquia and events, focusing on variety of fields of interest, in order to foster academic dialogue outside the classroom."*

Organizations in Eastern Connecticut

THE DISABILITY NETWORK OF EASTERN CONNECTICUT (DNEC): This is an organization focused on providing a variety of services to people with disabilities that reside in Eastern Connecticut. They state that, "We believe change starts with the individual, but the support of the community makes inclusion possible.  We are guided by the principle that our consumers should be able to integrate into the community of their choice to the fullest degree possible" (DNEC).

  • Peer Mentoring
  • Advocacy
  • Deaf Outreach and Interpreting Services

  • Employment Assistance

THE ARC OF NEW LONDON: The Mission of the Arc of New London is as follows: "The Arc of Connecticut is an advocacy organization committed to protecting the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and promoting opportunities for their full inclusion in their communities", their organization focuses on advocacy, but provides a variety of services as well.

  • Door to Door Transportation
