Art, Art History & Architectural Studies: Welcome

Guide to research and writing in the visual arts and museum studies

Featured Resources

Our newest database, the Art & Architecture ePortal, presents art ebooks from many academic and museum publishers in an innovative platform, which includes full-text and image search functions.

The library also provides online access to the Vogue Archive, which contains the entire run of Vogue magazine, from the first issue in 1892 to the current month. Every page is reproduced in high-resolution color images available to download in JPEG and PDF formats. You can also search the text of the magazine by keywords, dates, photographers, writers, etc.

This guide is intended to help students in the visual arts conduct research using resources in the library and online. Use the tabs at the top of the page to access research and writing tips, links to art and architecture resources, images and other media.

Local Art

There are many opportunities in the region to experience art first-hand, from Connecticut College's campus art collection and adjacent Lyman Allyn Art Museum to museums easily accessible within an hour by train on either side of New London. A little further afield, New York and Boston are home to many world-renowned art collections. The following map represents just a selection of these regional institutions in CT, RI, and MA:
